Although it may not be clear to the readers when they go out to buy Fall of Giants, still the motive that Ken Follett had in mind when he started writing fiction was pretty clear. He wanted to write bestsellers and that too only for money.
Although his first well renowned work was Eye of the Needle in 1978, the book that established him as a writer in the publishing world, he was already writing as a reporter in The Evening News of London. The job he was assigned was court reporting which was pretty dull in his opinion (so he was constantly looking for other options).
